What happens if a transfer has incorrect or incomplete recipient details?

If a transfer is sent to the wrong account number or has incorrect recipient details, the receiving bank will usually reject the payment and return it to your account. The time frame for the funds to be returned depends on the receiving bank:

  • Typical duration: 5–10 business days

  • In some cases: As fast as 3 business days
